Music has always been one of my greatest passions. I had piano lessons
from an early age, hated it, but am so glad now that I had them..
When I was 11 years old I first heard Led Zeppelin and everything changed. I
listened to everything I could get my hands on Emerson Lake & Palmer, Genesis, Yes, Mahavishnu, Pink Floyd, Zappa, Santana, all
their off-shoots and contemporaries. It was an exciting time musically to grow up in. These were musicians that had developed
in the 60's, and in the 70's were pushing back the frontiers of music. The quality of the musicianship, the virtuosity,
the emphasis on composition, the diversity of styles and the energy, extravagance and complexity of live performances increased
exponentially. There was almost a race to achieve the ultimate, some form of perfection. There were no barriers
to what could or couldn't be done. It was only a short time later that this wave of creativity crashed upon a shore of disillusionment
and despite many efforts, that momentum was never repeated.
If you restrain an art by putting it in a cage of conformity it ceases to be
an art.
During that period I taught myself to play guitar, and later to return to the
piano and eventually when I could afford it move onto electronic keyboards. I compose and improvise and play a variety of
styles and genres. Everything from heavy rock, blues, classical, jazz and anything else that seems pointless to classify.
The next few pages of this website include one piece of music per page and an
accompanying picture, so you dont have to stare at a blank screen or use your imagination! These have been recorded directly
to my PC without any further processing, so there are a few recording glitches here and there.
These are just a small handful of fairly recent pieces that were easy to get
uploaded, and fairly basic in recording terms (as opposed to lots of older pieces still sat on multi-track tapes). Being primarily
a picture site, I've limited how much space I can allocate to these, but hopefully will get more uploaded soon.
